Usability Testing for Web and Mobile Site | Capital Group

Overview

The client’s product team wanted to test the efficacy of their “Buzzfeed” style quiz for retirement personas as well as the functions of the retirement calculator that they were building for the site to increase sign up and contribution of 401(k).

Methods

  • Remote moderated usability testing

  • 1:1 Interviews

We used a remote moderated usability testing as the participants were going over the prototype of the website. 12 Participants were recruited from a mix of ages, ethnicities, genders, income levels, and those that contribute to 403(b) or 401(k) with varying degrees of saviness towards investing and retirement savings including 401(k).

These different requirements were met to align with the product team’s “Retirement Persona Quiz”

Impact

We explored journeys through both web and mobile versions of the prototype and participants’ engagement with tools and content. We also explored key motivations and barriers to increase savings contributions.

We recommended potential areas for optimization

  • Allowing for more fluid movement between sections

  • Acknowledging the “Make Changes” goal while continuing to engage via routes of guidance and reassurance

  • Providing customized tips and recommendations that will keep them engaged even if the don’t decide to make changes at that time
